Cupping to Give Your Body the Love it Deserves

Sometimes your body just needs a little extra love, and cupping is a great tool to help give your body the care and attention it deserves. At our office, we adore our heart-shaped love cups, but this love goes way beyond a cute Instagram opportunity. Within recent years, cupping has had a resurgence thanks to athletes and popstars posting their marks, but this type of therapy has actually been used for thousands of years and can with numerous ailments ranging from reducing anxiety to alleviating pain.

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, take time to invest in a little self-care loving your body for all that it does for you. Here are some of the reasons we love cupping.

Cupping reduces anxiety

One method involves gliding the suction cups across your body. This technique engages the parasympathetic nervous system which is responsible for slowing down your heart rate resulting in an overall calming effect. Not to mention, the sensation is pretty relaxing.

Cupping clears congestion

I don’t know about you, but I am seeing so many of my patients walk in with congestion. Call it the crazy weather the whole country is experiencing, but so many of my patients have come down with the common cold during the past few weeks. Placing body cups on patients’ backs

Cupping reduces sore muscles

Just this week, my daughter worked out a little too hard and asked if I could cup her to help alleviate her sore muscles. The idea behind cupping is to help increase blood flow which helps stimulate your body’s natural healing process. It also aids muscle recovery by loosening the facia which eases the pain you feel after going too hard on your workout.

Cupping reduces inflammation

In case we haven’t driven the point home, cupping helps increase circulation, which is critical to the healing journey. Cupping helps drive all the nastiness out of your body, therefore, reducing the toxin-buildup in your body.

Body cups can also help break up scar tissue, alleviate cramps, headaches and facial cupping even helps with skin and wrinkles.

If you are interested in this type of therapy, please go to someone with experience. Anyone can get body cup therapy, but if you happen to be on blood thinners or you have bleeding issues and sensitive skin, you should only keep these cups on for a few minutes.

I’m a huge fan of cupping especially when it is used in conjunction with acupuncture. Are you interested in giving your body the love it deserves?
